Open Water Opening Up: East Coast Open Water Championships
Courtesy of Doug Fonder, International Swimming Coaches Association, Huddleston, Virginia. While Europe has opened back up with their local, national and international open water swimming events, and their swimmers are swimming fast, swimming events – both in the pool and open water – remain largely shut down, cancelled or postponed throughout the United States.
But there are some exceptions including the ISCA Open Water Cup – East Coast Open Water Championships, a 3-race event that will be held on October 4th in the Mariners Landing @ Smith Mountain Lake in Huddleston, Virginia.
The 0.5-mile, 1-mile and 5 km lake races will include the following age groups: 9&U, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50 & Over). As race director Doug Fonder explains, “It is a great way to kick off your season. If swimmers are looking for an early racing opportunity during these very trying times, open water swimming is a fantastic activity to bring together new teammates and get some extra conditioning in at the start of the new season. A maximum of 500 entries will be accepted.”
