While Europe has opened back up with their local, national and international open water swimming events, and their swimmers are swimming fast, swimming events – both in the pool and open water – remain largely shut down, cancelled or postponed throughout the United States.
But there are some exceptions including the ISCA Open Water Cup – East Coast Open Water Championships, a 3-race event that will be held on October 4th in the Mariners Landing @ Smith Mountain Lake in Huddleston, Virginia.
The 0.5-mile, 1-mile and 5 km lake races will include the following age groups: 9&U, 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50 & Over). As race director Doug Fonder explains, “It is a great way to kick off your season. If swimmers are looking for an early racing opportunity during these very trying times, open water swimming is a fantastic activity to bring together new teammates and get some extra conditioning in at the start of the new season. A maximum of 500 entries will be accepted.”
