Open Water Swimming At The Georgia State Games

Alison Geist of the Georgia State Games in the southern USA, explained about the excitement for the upcoming 1K, 3K and 5K open water swims on July 17th. “The Lake Acworth community is so enthusiastic about hosting these races. Everyone was just so welcoming, it is a good fit.”

Acworth is a city outside of Atlanta that is filled with historical architecture and considered to be one of the most livable cities in the American South. Millions visit the parks and lake beaches of Lake Acworth Village, a sanctuary of peaceful beauty.

Georgia State Games Executive Director Eric Pfeifer said, “Open water swimming is a great challenge and opportunity for participants to test their skills and strength. We love offering this sport because not only do participants have a great feat of dealing with open water, but it also gives participants and spectators alike an opportunity to go out and enjoy one of Georgia’s beautiful lakes.”

Open water Event Coordinator Olivia Gamelin explained the nitty-gritty of hosting an open water swimming championship event – that is open to both in-state residents and out-of-state guests, “Coordinating an outdoor event is so different: all of the natural factors like pop-up thunderstorms, water currents, etc. can be challenging, but I like that it keeps me on my toes.”
