100 swimmers from 12 teams will competing in the 38th National Marathon Swimming Championships (Vinashin Cup) on the Han River in Da Nang, Vietnam next week. Dinh Viet Hung of the Vietnam Aquatic Sports Association said, “This is the fourth time the Cup has been sponsored by Vinashin [a large shipbuilding company].”
16-year-old Hoang Quy Phuoc, Chau Ba Anh Tu, Hoang Dinh Long, Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh, Duong Thi Khanh Linh, Vo Thi Thanh Vy, An Do Hanh and Truong Hoang Nhat Vy are among the pre-race favorites in the 7K race in the Ham Luong river in Ben Tre Province. “It has been a great effort by Vinashin and Vietnam Aquatic Sports Association to organize this annual event. We try our best to keep this an annual race for national team members so they can hone their skills for international events.”
Southern California native, born 1962, is the creator of the WOWSA Awards, Oceans Seven, Openwaterpedia, Daily News of Open Water Swimming and founder of WOWSA. Inductee in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame (Honor Swimmer, Class of 2001) and Ice Swimming Hall of Fame (Honor Contributor - Media, Class of 2019), recipient of the International Swimming Hall of Fame's Poseidon Award (2016), International Swimming Hall of Fame's Irving Davids-Captain Roger Wheeler Memorial Award (2010).
