Open Water Swimming In The Beautiful Quintana Roo

Open Water Swimming In The Beautiful Quintana Roo

Fernando Betanzos T, President of the Nadadores de Quintana Roo, has been working on developing open water swimming in the easternmost part of Mexico for 7 years.

Together with Ivan Torres, he has really developed a vibrant open water swimming and triathlon community in Quintana Roo. With a beautiful piece of aquatic wonderland to work with, the standards were set high on the Yucatan Peninsula.

Most of the triathletes enter our open water swims. And, our triathlons draw nearly 70% of the field from outside of Mexico. The triathletes love our warm, beautiful sea.”

Fernando started the Ruta del Arrecife event slowly with only 60 athletes in the first year. But, like the other professional and amateur events in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, the Ruta del Arrecife took off. As Fernando and Ivan learned and promoted the two sports of triathlon and open water swimming, their events attract over 400 swimmers. From sponsors to safety, the dynamic duo put together some very professionally run events.

Open water swimming events in Quintana Roo include:
