Open Water Swimming Tools – Wrist Transponders

The athletes at major international races often wear two transponders on their wrists. The transponders are light with limited GPS capabilities.

In the call room, the officials hand out the transponders one-by-one to the swimmers who are responsible for crossing the finish line with both transponders.

The transponders enable the timing company and race officials to know (1) when the swimmers pass under the timing truss for a split time, and (2) when the swimmers hit the vertical touch pad at the finish line.
