In the same region as Kyoto and Osaka in central Japan, Mie Prefecture has vast protected coastal areas of 1,000 kilometers of Pacific Ocean coastline.
The 500m, 1 km, 3 km and 5 km OWS Mie Open Owase (尾鷲OWS) is annually held in summer in Mikisato Beach in these protected waters. Organized by the Japan Swimming Federation, the July 28th race is part of the Japan Open Water Swimming Circuit Series, a series of competitive races held throughout Japan.
