WOWSA Live was a feature of the Daily News of Open Water Swimming a decade ago.
WOWSA Live was a weekly one-hour online interview that focused on luminaries in the open water swimming world including Greta Andersen, dual inductee in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame and International Swimming Hall of Fame [shown below], Philip Rush, an International Marathon Swimming Hall of Famer, Dr. Penny Dean, a former English Channel record holder and current Catalina Channel record holder, Natalie du Toit, the first amputee to qualify for an Olympic final (Olympic 10K Marathon Swim), Ted Erikson, an International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame inductee, Kevin Murphy, dual inductee in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame and International Swimming Hall of Fame, Fran Crippen, an International Marathon Swimming Hall of Famer, Lynn Kubasek, and many others.
“In the current era when more people are working, studying and spending time at home due to the coronavirus pandemic, it seems like a good time to bring WOWSA Live back – but this time, bigger and better than ever with co-host and International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame chairman Ned Denison,” announced Steven Munatones.
“The program will also be expanded to WOWSA Live and WOWSA Live in addition to the original WOWSA Live. Zoom will be the platform in which Ned and I will interview all kinds of inspirational luminaries from the open water niches of ice swimming, marathon swimming, channel swimming, stage swimming, wild swimming, competitive professional racing, high-altitude swimming, and swimming holidays from around the world. We will also interview experts in escorting, paddling, coaching and nutrition as well as psychology, dryland training and injury rehabilitation.
The program will begin on April 1st – no joke, no April Fool’s here – at 7:00 am California time and 3:00 pm GMT. If you do not have an opportunity to listen in live, the program will be saved and archived for your listening pleasure.
Listeners can also ask questions live to the co-hosts and guests on the Zoom remote conferencing platform.”
WOWSA Live will provide insight and inspiration, education and enthusiasm about the sport. Anyone can listen to the first-hand insider’s view of world-class swimmers, incredible personalities, top coaches, experienced escort pilots, behind-the-scenes administrators, international officials and innovative race directors who describe their exploits, lifestyles and perspectives.
This coming WOWSA Live will feature guest Pádraig Mallon who is a North Channel escort pilot, an ice swimmer, the world’s first Iron Ice Man, and a marathon swimmer. He created the Step Out Of The Ordinary Blue Letter Campaign that was voted as the 2014 World Open Water Swimming Offering of the Year. He also created and runs Infinity Channel Swimming and was selected as one of the World’s 50 Most Adventurous Open Water Men.
