Paul Asmuth Talks About Racing And Solo Swimming On WOWSA Live

International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame and International Swimming Hall of Fame dual inductee Paul Asmuth was among the best in the pool and in the open water during his lengthy aquatic career – that was capped off with two Olympic stints as the American marathon swimming coach in 2008 and 2012.

Asmuth talked about all things open water with International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame chairman Ned Denison on today’s edition of WOWSA Live. Asmuth described the following:

* training in the Animal Lane at Mission Viejo Nadadores in California
* training under and learning many of the most famous and successful American coaches during his career like Gregg Troy, Mark Schubert, Charles Silvia, Dr. Sam Freas, and Ron Johnson
* learning how to acclimate to cold water
* writing his book Marathon Swimming: The Sport of the Soul like training for a marathon swim
* setting the men’s English Channel record
* swimming in Nantucket, Massachusetts
* competing in 24 Heures La Tuque in Canada with James Kegley, trying to break the record of John Kinsella and Bill Heiss
* swimming lac St-Jean, swimming 64 km in hours minutes in 1989
* being the fiercest in the water and friendliest on the beach
