Phil Dodson, a lifelong swimmer and volunteer from Illinois, won the tough 200-yard butterfly race in the 60-64 age group at the 2014 U.S. Masters Swimming National Championships in Santa Clara, California last week.

His gutsy performance is typical of his performances that have highlighted his long pool and open water swimming career. Since Dodson first appeared on the cover of Swimming World Magazine for being a member of the incomparable relay teams at the famed Hinsdale High School of the 1960s, Dodson has continually given back to the sport.

Awarded the U.S. Masters Swimming Dorothy Donnelly Service Award in 2007, it is selfless people like Dodson who help make the sport of swimming so wonderful.
