Queen Of The Sea To Be Crowned In Copacabana

The Queen of the Sea (Desafio Rei e Rainha do Mar) is going to have to swim and run – very, very fast – for 5 laps of 850 meters in Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro on December 16th.

The competitors will swim around the 800m loop course and then run 50m up and down the sand on Copacabana Beach 5 times in front of thousands of fans and a live television audience.

Poliana Okimoto, Ana Marcela Cunha, Betina Lorscheitter, Izabela Fortini and Sarah Correa from Brazil, Ashley Twichell and Lexie Kelly from the USA, Nadine Reichert from Germany, and Zsofia Balazs from Canada will be competing on the 2016 Olympic 10km Marathon Swim course. Great experience for these athletes, some of who may be competing for Olympic medals in 2016.

They will be joined by 10 elite men including Germany’s Alexander Studzinski, Brazil’s Allan do Carmo, Lucas Kanieski, Rafael Gonçalves, Samuel de Bona and Luis Rogério Arapiraca, South Africa’s Chad Ho, Tunisia’s Oussama Mellouli, Australia’s Trent Grimsey, and Italy’s Valerio Cleri…who will also be vying for Olympic medals in 2016.
