Race For The Conch Eco-SeaSwim 2023: A Spectacular Day in Grace Bay

On June 24, 2023, the highly anticipated “Race for the Conch” Eco-SeaSwim took place in the breathtaking waters of Grace Bay, Turks & Caicos Islands.

Under the clear skies of Grace Bay, the azure waters provided the perfect setting. Organized by Ben Stubenberg and Chloe Zimmerman, the open water race featured three different swim distances – 1/2 mile, 1 mile, and the challenging 2.4-mile race.

Seasoned athletes and first-time participants dove into the turquoise beauty of Grace Bay and the warm and calm waters provided an ideal environment for swimmers of all levels.

A special highlight of the event was the stunning trophies created by the talented artist Lucie Stubbs, featuring exquisitely carved conchs by Stanford Handfield.

Grace Bay’s picturesque beach served as the perfect backdrop for the races, making it not only a wonderful sports event but also a remarkable tropical getaway. The location, situated near the Bahamas in the Providenciales of Turks and Caicos, truly embodies the essence of paradise.

In the overall 2.4-mile race, Tajari Williams (54:39), Chris Moore (57:08) and Sarah Harrington (58:03) took the top spots.

In the 1-mile race, Tajari Williams (23:14), Anne Hart (24:38) and John Stanforth (25:08) placed first, second and third. And finally the 1/2 mile race saw Annika Curren (10:27) securing the top position, with Brecken Curren (11:08) and Anna Vermeeren (12:17) taking second and third.

On August 1, registration will open once again for next year, inviting swimmers from around the globe to experience the magic of the “Race for the Conch” Eco-SeaSwim in Grace Bay.
