Racing In The Dark And Ice

During the relays performed at 0ºC temperatures at the 2015 Tyumen Open Water Swimming Cup in Siberia, Russia last week, the relays were conducted in the dark.
Nuala Moore of Ireland recalls, “The relays were amazing to watch in the ice. The Russians from the Novosibirsk Team in Eastern Russia were so fabulous. They are always smiling. They go in and just break the ice.
It’s not easy doing a backstroke leg in the ice in the dark at this speed. But they talk the swimmer up and then protect the last backstroke on the edge so they don’t hurt themselves.”
