Ray Gandy, a member of the 24-hour club pictured on left with his special coating, will attempt to swim 50 miles from Newport, Vermont in America to Magog, Quebec in Canada this Saturday, July 14th. While professional marathon swimmers used to swim one length of lac Memphrémagog before the course was cancelled in the aftermath of 9/11, Phil White reinstated the 25-mile swim for amateurs in 2010.

Energized by the slew of swimmers and the need to raise money for the Indoor Recreation Orleans County, Gandy is seeking donations of US$100 per mile.

Gandy’s charity swim will start at The Gateway Center in Newport, Vermont sometime between 8 am and 10 am on July 14th.

The swim is being supported by the Northeast Kingdom Open Water Swimming Association, IROC, and Newport Marine Services.
