A Rematch Against The Rok

Abdul Malick Railoun will face off again against Slovenian pro marathoner Rok Kerin at the Nelson Mandela Bay Bell Buoy Challenge in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Rok just barely edged out the up-and-coming 18-year-old at the tape at the 3K Speedo Challenge at the aQuellé Midmar Mile.

With over R70,000 (US$10,495) in prize money, the 8K race promises to be one of the annual Nelson Mandela Bay Splash Festival highlights from April 22nd to 25th. “Rok is one of the top swimmers in the world over 10K and obviously the big favorite,” said watersports coordinator Michael Zoetmulder. “But you can’t underestimate Railoun – he’s among the best in South Africa.”

With the enthusiasm of youth, the former South African 3K champion from Cape Town threw down his gauntlet, “I’m confident of reversing the result. My training had gone well.”

Michael, who has been bringing fresh ideas to the sport, will showcase a few new twists. “Promising young swimmers will get their chance to impress the following day in the 1K Izani Siqubhe Swim which features special cash prizes in the development category.”

The King of the Bay – with its elimination swims, beach flags, beach sprints and Malibu board events – culminates the festivities on the last day.
