Remembering Peter Frayne

Michael Read, President of the Channel Swimming Association, recalls the life and commitment of Peter Frayne, “We were deeply saddened to learn of Peter’s death. He played such an important role within our organisation, especially during the formative years after the second World War.

He was a great supporter of the Channel Swimming Association. The 1950s, 1960s and 1970s were critical in the development of our sport and Peter was there at the heart of it. Amongst the great swimmers he helped to cross the Channel were Florence Chadwick, Gerry Forsberg, Mihir Sen, Linda McGill and Tom Hetzel
.”

Montserrat Tresserras from Spain, Vice President of the Channel Swimming Association said, “I remember Peter Frayne very well and will never forget him. I have seen Peter crying because of a swimmer’s failure. I have seen Peter celebrating a success and he was always surrounded by the swimmers of my day. He was happy to be amongst all swimmers. He was a great observer and that means that he was a very good support for CSA. We will not forget him!”
