FINA confirmed Jinshan City Beach as its site for the open water swimming races at its 2011 World Swimming Championships. Its decision was based on the quality of the water, its proximity to high-standard hotels and the ability to fulfill the new safety conditions for the 5K, 5K Team Time Trial, 10K and 25K races.
Because of the high probability of warm water conditions combined with high humidity and high air temperatures in the middle of the day in July, FINA announced morning start times for the races.
The new program of the open water races is as follows:
Tuesday, July 19th at 9 am – 10K Women (Olympic 10K Marathon Swim qualification race) Wednesday, July 20th at 9 am – 10K Men (Olympic 10K Marathon Swim qualification race) Thursday, July 21th at 9 am – 5K Team Event Friday, July 22th at 8 am – 5K Women Friday, July 22th at 10 am – 5K Men Saturday, July 23th at 8 am – 25K Men Saturday, July 23th at 88:15 am – 25K Women
