Roberto Clemente Would Be Proud Of Open Water Swimmers

Chris Brewster, President of the United States Lifesaving Association and Vice President of the International Life Saving Federation has a great motto that he shares on every email: “If you have a chance to help others and fail to do so, you are wasting your time on this earth,” attributed to professional baseball great Roberto Clemente who died en route to helping others. Fortunately, open water swimmers are renowned for going out of their way to help their colleagues as training partners, spotters, volunteer escort crew, pilots, paddlers, kayakers, officials, feeders and coaches. Served on the FINA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee and as Technical Delegate with the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games, and 9-time USA Swimming coaching staff.
