A Rose Starts To Bloom In The City
Courtesy of WOWSA, Huntington Beach, California. Deanne Draeger started the Rose Pitonof Swim in New York City in 2011. The open water swimming seeds she planted with the centennial of Rose’s swim in 1911 are on schedule to blossom big-time with her new Urban Swim in the summer of 2012.Deanne and Swim Ambassador Jason Malick announced 3 new clinics and 2 new races to add to the Rose Pitonof Swim in the New York/New Jersey area.
Deanne explains, “Urban Swim is an organization dedicated to providing safe access to local waterways, and to supporting the cause of clean water. I also plan to make it a means of connecting swimmers to their local swimming families. Our events are a means of providing people with a way to directly participate in making a difference through grass-roots volunteer efforts, fundraising, and challenging themselves athletically.”
The Urban Swim 2012 schedule includes the NYC Hudson River Swim Clinic and Qualifier on June 17th (0.5 mile), the NJ Hudson River Swim Clinics on June 30th (2.4 miles) and July 14th (2.4 miles), the Verrazano Bridge Swim on July 21st (1 mile), the Rose Pitonof Swim on August 18th (17 miles) and the Liberty to Freedom Swim on September 15th (2.2 miles).
