Cheating in sports takes a variety of forms, from skirting the rules to cutting a buoy in open water swimming. When specific substances are illegal taken to enable greater musculature, faster recovery or improved cardiovascular endurance, the line certainly has been crossed. The World Anti-Doping Agency promotes, coordinates and monitors the fight against doping in sports in all its forms. Unfortunately, the World Anti-Doping Agency‘s Legal Director recently commented on the ongoing fight against drug cheats in sports:
“Science alone will not eradicate cheating. The cheats are getting better at cheating. Scientists are increasingly reluctant to be placed in a position where their testing procedures are challenged in court. 25% of the world’s pharmaceuticals come from the black market.”
For reference purposes, the World Anti-Doping Agency’s prohibited list is here.
