Samuel Marsteiner Captures USA Swimming Junior National 5K Championship Title

Over the last two decades, there have been many great open water races in Fort Myers Beach, Florida. This past weekend was no exception at the USA Swimming Open Water National and Junior Championships between April 1st – 3rd.

On Day Two of the three-day championship event, it was time for the younger swimmers to be featured.

Samuel Marsteiner from New Wave Swim Team in Raleigh, North Carolina swam out to an early lead and maintained it to the finish.

Marsteiner and NOVA of Virginia Aquatics’ Nathan Szobota finished 1-2 and will join Claire Weinstein and Abigail Miller at the FINA World Junior Open Water Championships in September in Beau Vallon, Seychelles. Szobota said, “I really wanted this. To have it [qualifying for the FINA World Junior Open Water Championships] now is just amazing. I’m super excited for it. I heard about that opportunity and now that I get to go do it.”
