Sandor Csepregi is an open water swimmer from Pender Island in British Columbia, Canada. He wanted to honor his late grandfather and one of Canada’s greatest swimming coach with a 35 km circumnavigation swim around Pender Island.

Called the George Gate Memorial Swim, Csepregi almost made it around on August 17th.

I have no doubt I swam the distance I set out to swim, but the results were different than intended,” he explains. “Next year I am up for a rematch and with the knowledge gained this year hope to succeed. However, as far as The George Gate Memorial Swim is concerned, I have talked with my family and we’re just going to do a Georgia Strait crossing.”
