S.C.A.R.’ed But Still Standing Tall At The Hall Of Fame
Gary Hall, Jr., Pieter Van Hoogenband, Yana Klochkova, Dagmar Hase, Chi Lieh Yung, Mu Chengkuan, Mu Xiangxiong, Alberto Castagnetti, Hu Jia, Milivoj Bebic, Cliff Lumsdon, Peter Montgomery, Nathalie Schneyder will be honored at the 49th annual induction ceremony at the International Swimming Hall of Fame. Among those giants in the aquatics world who will be feted in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, another giant will be recognized for his contribution to marathon swimming.
Less than a week removed from representing Ireland at the S.C.A.R. Swim Challenge in the state of Arizona, Ned Denison will be honored by the International Swimming Hall of Fame and given the Irving Davids-Captain Roger Wheeler Memorial Award.
His speech will be riveting and will undoubtedly inspire and attract many in the aquatics world to increase their appreciation for their colleagues in the open water swimming world.
Just a year after being inducted in the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame as an Honour Administrator in the Class of 2012, Denison will be recognized again by the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
The Irving Davids-Captain Roger Wheeler Memorial Award was established in 1970 by the New England Marathon Swimming Association to honor and recognize the contribution of individuals and groups making major contributions to Marathon Swimming and serve as a perpetual memorial to Irving Davids and Captain Roger Wheeler.
“The IMSHOF extends its hearty congratulations to Ned on his selection. The International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame welcomes him into the fold of the truly greats in our sport of marathon swimming,” said Honorary Secretary Dale Petranech.
“Ned remains an extraordinarily accomplished marathon swimmer in addition to his coaching, administration and leadership. He is the kind of guy that you want on your boat at night. He is the friend you want standing onshore. He is the administrator who makes things happen while making everyone else around feel special,” commented Steven Munatones, Vice President of the IMSHOF. “He combines the best traits and skills of a drill sergeant, an orchestra conductor, and your best college buddy. Our sport is very fortunate to have a leader like him.”
