The mixing of the genders in an elite open water swimming competition causes all kinds of changes. When it happened in the FINA Open Water Swimming Grand Prix race off the Ocean Maya Royale resort in the Caribbean Sea, it led to all kinds of havoc.

The men’s pack got strung out by over 100 meters. The women’s pack got strung out even more. But Hungary’s Anna Olasz and Germany’s Angela Maurer are hanging tough with the secondary pack of men.

Ferry Weertman of the Netherlands is leading the lead pack of 4 men including Simone Ercoli of Italy and Vitaliy Khudyakov.
