Older veterans ruled the new Slam The Dam race in Las Vegas, Nevada this weekend.
World record holder Daniel Slosberg, who did a two-way crossing of the Catalina Channel back in 1978, won the Gland Slam event in a time of 2:36 for the 8K + 1.2K races. Bryan Buck of Irvine, California won the Super Slam event in 1:24:34 for the 2.4K + 1.2K races.
“We had a great turn out for Slam the Dam. What an exciting morning,” said race director Kara Robertson. “It stormed Friday night, but the sky cleared just long enough for all of our swimmers to finish without incident. After the race, thunder and lightening storm rolled back in creating 4-5 foot swells and a dust storm at the beach.”
