The Sound Of Marathons

The Sound Of Marathons

So there is none who doesn’t fell a spiritual uplift listening to the sound of the name of Marathon…” by Ailios Aristeides.

The City of Marathon, the site of the battle in 490 BC between the heavily outnumbered Athenian army and the Persians, rings a bell for runners…and will soon mean something for swimmers.

With a new series of open water swims set to start in the famed area east of Athens, the city of Marathon will also enter the lexicon of swimming for something more than the Olympic 10K Marathon Swim.

The organizers of the 2011 World Summer Games will start off with Pool Open Water and then step up to a 1.5K race in the warm, calm waters of Marathon Beach on July 1st.
