The Spirit Orcas are a group of six developmentally disabled athletes who challenge themselves by swimming in the open water. In July 2019 they swam a 25 km relay through Gunboat Pass to Bella Bella in British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest.

The Spirit Orcas – including Cheyenne Furlong-Goos, Drew Sabourin, Aly White, Ben Vanlierop, Dixon McGowan, and Maria Sharock – are coached by Susan Simmons and are planning other relay attempts across the Georgia Strait in 2020 and the English Channel in 2022.
