Susan Simmons On MS Across The Salish Sea

Susan Simmons is an open water swimmer with Multiple Sclerosis from Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. In 2011, she swam in her first open water ocean swim as part of an women’s relay team 34K across the Salish Sea. In 2012, she will attempt her first 10K solo ocean swim.

On August 6, 2011 at 8 am thirteen swimmers set out to swim 34 kilometres across the Salish Sea; 3 relay teams and 2 individual swimmers.

Eight swimmers made the crossing. I am honoured to have been one of them.
I have come to discover that swimming across the sea is about far more than swimming. It is about a community of people that come together to plan out and participate in a day long journey, a journey filled with twists and turns along the way.

I am blessed to have been invited into the Salish Sea Swim community and am grateful to all of those who participated in our collective journey
