In 1984, she became the first European woman to complete a two-way crossing (67 km in 21 hours 16 minutes) of the English Channel which she did 2 other times.
In 1990, she became the first woman to complete a 3-way crossing (100.5 km in 34 hours 40 minutes).
The Queen appointed Streeter a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1991 for her swimming prowess and charity fund-raising. To date she has raised over £100,000 for various charities.
She formerly worked as a currency trader in London, and now spends part of her life in Adelaide (Seacliff) and the summers in Dover as a English Channel Swim boat pilot.
