Description

Marko Pejchinovski, the open water solo marathon swimmer from OhridMacedonia. He performs swimming feats that no one has ever done before in Lake Ohrid – Macedonia.

Marko started swimming with a very unfortunate and life-changing turn of events for him. At the age of 10 he was diagnosed with a rare condition of the hip – perthes. This meant that he couldn’t run, play football with his friends or do other regular sports activities that are quite common, especially while you are a kid and your body is still developing. The only sport he was allowed to do was swimming. That’s how he started with this sport.

“For me, swimming is more than a sport, something that got me up on my feet, something that saved me from depression, made me face my thoughts instead of running away from them; swimming made me grow, made me see the world differently, gave me the opportunity to meet many people, taught me discipline, showed me how much you have to sacrifice to succeed, taught me many life lessons that I would not have learned anywhere else or so early. For me, swimming means one of the greatest blessings in my life.”

“The inspiration for 2022 swims came from the failure that occurred 3 years ago and was bothering me every night and I wasn’t comfortable with that. I had to try again. See, in 2019, an idea was born, an idea where I would swim 64 km at the age of 13. The goal was to help the kids with rare diseases, to raise awareness for them, because I am also a kid with a rare disease.

So, for this 2022, my team and I created the perfect plan. The plan was to swim 250km in 10 swims during  this summer, with the last swim to be the biggest one 64km, and the other 9 swims to be all unique routes that no one has ever swum in Lake Ohrid before.

And, I did it”…
