Swim And Eat Like A Turtle

Swim like a turtle is not really what a lot of open water swimmers want to hear.

But it is a compliment if they are talking about leatherback turtles that have been discovered by British scientists have to be able to swim for thousands of miles in a nearly perfectly straight line.

Exeter University’s Centre for Ecology and Conservation tagged 25 female leatherback female turtles with satellite tracking devices when they swam from their hatching grounds in Africa across the Atlantic Ocean. They can swim 30 miles a day reaching speeds of 22 mph while eating jellyfish.

So the next time someone tells you that you swim like a turtle, take it as a compliment.
