Services to honor and remember the life and legacy of Dr. Charles Michael van der Horst (January 4th 1952 – June 14th 2019) were held today in Durham, North Carolina.  A casket with meaningful reminders from his life were buried at the Durham Hebrew Cemetery after the funeral service.

His body was also found downstream in the Fort Tryon area off northern Manhattan in the Hudson River after being lost on June 14th in Stage 6 (The Palisades) of the 8 Bridges Hudson River Swim as reported by CBS New York [see above].

The Professor of Medicine at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill was renowned for his work in the HIV/AIDs field, his voluntary contributions in fields from medicine to politics and causes, and his generous financial support of many progressive causes and organizations.
