Winston Crooke, President of the St. Kitts and Nevis Triathlon, is standing at the ready in Nevis. Nevis is part of a federation with St. Kitts in the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean Sea.
Nevis, the tiny island with plenty of beautiful open water swimming locations, is the start of the 2.5-mile (4km) swim.
from Oualie Beach on Nevis to Cockleshell Bay on St Kitts.
“The 2014 swim was the 12th annual Bente Weber Memorial Swim which offers the opportunity for veterans and newbies – with or without fins – to take part in a swim across the Narrows,” explains race director Crooke.
“The event started with 12 swimmers back in 2003, but has grown to nearly 130 ten years later.
This year the event has partnered with the St Kitts Turtle Monitoring Group to raise awareness and funds for this important conservation project founded in January 2003 which monitors nesting sea turtle populations and acts as an advocate for the strengthening of sea turtle protection laws.”
