Swimming DownStream In Navia And On Television

Ignacio M. Sela described one of the world’s greatest open water swimming events, the LIII Descenso a Nado de la ría de Navia in Spain:

Navia’s Estuary Downstream Swim will be broadcast live on national television on Televisión del Principado de Asturias.

We will install a giant screen which is most attractive for the spectators. This live broadcasting will utilize cameras on land, from the water and in the air. We will have fixed cameras, on-board boat cameras and piloted helicopters throughout the course.”

It is a multi-race event with the 5K LEN European Open Water Swimming Junior Championships on August 12th. The next day, the 5K XIV Asturias Open Water Cup is held and then the second session of the 3K Team LEN European Open Water Swimming Junior Championships for national teams follows. On August 14th, the 54th Descenso a Nado de la ría de Navia will culminate the competition with mass participation and a live television broadcast and live streaming.

The current world record of the men’s 5K course is held by German Christian Reichert with a time of 35 minutes 18 seconds. The 3K course record is his wife Nadine Pastor with a time of 25 minutes 51 seconds.
