Swimming for a Cause: The Murray Rose Malabar Magic Ocean Swim

Swimming for a Cause: The Murray Rose Malabar Magic Ocean Swim

Get your swimming gear ready and head to Malabar beach in Malabar, NSW, Australia this weekend for the highly anticipated Annual Murray Rose Malabar Magic Ocean Swim! This event, now in its 15th year, is set to be a thrilling experience for swimmers of all abilities. The event will be held on Sunday 19 February 2023 and promises a variety of races including the 1km, 2.5km, and 5km distances, as well as the special Splash and Dash for children learning to swim across the 45 Rainbow Clubs in NSW & QLD in Australia.

International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame, Honor Swimmer, James Pittar, ambassador of the club, is excited to participate in this event and represent the organization that provides one-on-one swimming tuition for disabled children for 40 weeks of the year. James was the first blind swimmer to complete the Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming.

The Rainbow Club’s purpose is to share the joy of swimming with children with a disability and the Murray Rose Malabar Magic Ocean Swim is their signature event to celebrate the shared love of ocean swimming while promoting and highlighting the great work that the club does.

Since its inception in 2008, the Murray Rose Malabar Magic has raised over $2 million to help children with a disability learn to swim. These funds are utilized to ensure over 1760 children with a disability in 45 Rainbow Clubs across NSW & QLD are offered individualized swimming lessons from a qualified teacher each week of the school term. Additionally, funds are used to open new clubs in areas of need as there are over 900 children on the waitlist.

The organizers are hoping for a record number of swimmers this year, following the success of the last event that hosted over 2000 swimmers of all abilities. So, if you want to take part in this fantastic event or support the cause, make sure to check out the Rainbow Club’s fundraising link. It’s going to be a weekend to remember!
