Swimming Open Water In Middle Tennessee

Daily News Correspondent Kate Alexander had a blast at the Middle Tennessee Swim Club‘s weekly open water training under the tutelage of U.S. Masters Swimming Coach Ron Chlasta

On Thursday evenings after work, Coach Ron opens up his own backyard for swimming in Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

Coach Ron’s Thursday group is now in its third year where he welcomes swimmers of all ability levels. He started inviting masters swimmers to try open water as an interesting and challenging change to pool workouts,” reports Kate who thoroughly enjoyed herself with her newly found colleagues. “The open water sessions always include at least two kayakers for safety support, plus Coach Chlasta coaching from a kayak.”

Many of his club swimmers got their first taste of open water competition at the Swim Across America – Nashville edition.
