Swimming Through Beauty

Romanian Avram Iancu continues on his stage swim of 2,860 km, forecasted to last 60 days, along the Danube River through Europe.
The 41-year-old librarian from Petrosani, Transylvania started his stage swim from Donaueschingen in the Black Forest in Germany. He is now heading into Day 71 as each day is a dynamically different replication of the day before.
Day 70 on August 28rd
Iancu swam 41 km today, feeling a lot better than yesterday. “Even though I swam the same number of kilometers as yesterday, today felt a lot easier. I reached the 680 km milestone now and it’s very encouraging for my morale that I passed the 700 km milestone,” he said.
He reached the place where the Jiu River joins the Danube, described as a very beautiful spot by Iancu. “I was born in the area where the source of the river Jiu came from and I felt very emotional and happy to have reached the place where this river joins the Danube.”
He also passed Bechet, a Romanian town where more people were waiting for him to swim with and cheer him on.
The distance traversed on the Danube from Day 1 to Day 70: 2,180 km
The distance remaining to be covered on the Danube: 680 km
