Gaviota State Park will be the start of the Nighttrain228 relay around 6-7 pm on August 22nd. The Night Train Swimmers will attempt to set the world record for the longest non-stop ocean relay swim in history with a 228-mile (367 km) relay swim down the California coast from Gaviota State Park near the city of Santa Barbara to Coronado, south of San Diego.
The Night Train Swimmers relay team swam 181 miles (291 km) down the coast of California last year, sometimes encountering sharks as they swam 20 miles off shore. "We raised US$1.2 million for our Marine Veterans returning from conflicts around the world, which we donated to the Semper Fi Fund," explains Vito Bialla, the catalyst for the relay swim.
