Not many swims get kicked off when Supermen bolt down from the high heavens and parachute down right smack on the starting line.

But few swims – if any – raises money like the Tampa Bay Frogman Swim does.

Nominated for the 2019 World Open Water Swimming Offering of the Year with an eclectic mix of other products, events and services, the 5 km bay swim last weekend outdid itself again and is on track to raise well over US$725,000 with fewer than 200 swimmers.

This year’s overall winner was 1996 and 2000 Olympic gold medalist, mother and still-speedy nearly 40-year-old Brooke Bennett, but the real winners included everyone involved from the Gold Star Families to the Navy SEAL Foundation.
