Taylor Pike Won 2019 CSCAA National Collegiate Open Water Swimming Championships
Courtesy of College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association, Lone Star Lake, Kansas. There are tens of thousands of open water swims that have been cancelled or postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown and its aftermath.
While each and every one of the cancelled events impacts its participants, volunteers, organizers, sponsors and local economy in different ways, there is one event that had been building up momentum in its short history and will missed sorely this year. The 5 km CSCAA National Collegiate Open Water Swimming Championships have been hosted by the University of Kansas at Lone Star Lake in Kansas over the last four years.
The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) is the oldest coaches association in the USA, founded in 1922. The Association held its first national collegiate open water swimming competition in 2016 for student-athletes from collegiate men’s and women’s teams from the NCAA, NAIA, CCCAA and NJCAA institutions.
The 5 km 3-loop race had been a welcomed addition to the world of collegiate athletics and will be sorely missed in 2020.
On September 14th 2019, Rice University was crowned the women’s champion team with the University of Kansas second and Texas A&M third. Texas A&M’s Taylor Pike and Joy Field went one and two while Linda Ungerbock from Carson Newman University took third.
