Ted Molin, Helén Runger Victorious In 42 km Vidösternsimmet

Vidösternsimmet is an eventin Småland, Sweden with 0.5 km, 6 km, 21 km and 42 km swims across Lake Vidöstern. As race organizer Christer Ringblom states, “The Lake Vidöstern is a very tough lake to master, swimming. The wind often blows with a strength of 4-7 m/s and fog is quite common.”

The 21 km marathon swim was previously Sweden’s longest open water swim, but a two-way crossing has challenged marathon swimmers like never before.

Ringblom forewarned the athletes, “This is the longest and toughest open water race in Sweden that takes place in the fresh waters of the Lake Vidöstern. There is no guaranteed finish in this event. You have to struggle with the forces of nature, focus on every stroke and count the big yellow buoys as you navigate past them on your way to the finish line. Your participation is all at your own risk.”
