The Aussie Baton Is Passed From Paul Ellercamp to Andre Slade

Paul Ellercamp was a pioneer and visionary in the open water swimming world. In the previous century, he started, and grew it to become the world’s leading online destination site for ocean swimming.

Ellercamp’s legacy will live on, but is now in the able hands of Andre Slade, another ocean aquapreneur from Australia. It dawned on me, we don’t really have a ‘season’ anymore. Sure, there are fair-weather swimmers out there – and I would’ve counted myself in that group before we relocated to the Gold Coast this year – who emerge from their open water slumber in the spring.

But, the traditional ocean swimming season based around the ocean swims calendar is really a thing of the past now. It used to be that pool swimmers emerged from the chlorine to get their salty ocean fix under the safety and guidance of organized events. Yet now, helped along by the pandemic and closed pools, social ocean swimming is thriving right across the country, 365 days a year.

Groups of friends, and friends of friends, are meeting up and filling beaches, cafes and Instagram accounts with the joys of ocean swimming. How awesome is that.”

Slade is updating the website with a focus on the ocean swimming lifestyle with an event calendar, a swim directory, and a magazine While he is at that, his original OceanFit website is also being revamped. The OceanFit calendar and directory have transferred to that allows a renewed focus on his ocean swimming clinics, online training, and new ocean swimming holidays. Slade explains, “We are delighted to finally launch our Swim The Whitsundays tours over the winter, although due to Australian domestic border restrictions, it was sad we weren’t able to welcome aboard everyone who’d booked. Next year will be epic, and spots are filling fast, so book now if you’d like to join us on the bucket-list swim holiday of a lifetime.”
