The Cheers Go On And On

The Cheers Go On And On

What is so wonderful at open water swims – as well as triathlons, marathon runs and other endurance events – is that the athletes – all of them – receive cheers and adulation at the finish of their races.

As the swimmers run up the soft sand of Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, they hear music and non-stop commentary as well as see wide smiles and receive high fives, hugs and handshakes at the finish.

At the King and Queen of the Sea (Desafio Rei e Rainha do Mar), they also run towards the huge finish banners with photos of the pros racing and running including swimmers like Valerio Cleri, Poliana Okimoto and Ashley Twichell.
