With official’s boats looking on and kayakers alongside, no participants took the same line at the 3rd annual 14 km Cold Half marathon swim in Hong Kong.

Race director Doug Woodring tracked each of the 35 athletes from China, the UK, Thailand, the United States and Hong Kong in the Cold Half – the results are above.

James Penrose from the UK was one of the marathon swimmers who competed in the Naturally Buoyant category, slogging through the choppy Stanley Bay that was churned up by 15-20 knot winds.

Harry Wright completed the 10 km marathon swim in 2 hours 49 minutes. Tomorrow, he will attempt to complete the Standard Chartered Marathon run in under 3 hours as part of the Cold Standard race. If he does both the marathon swim and marathon run under 3 hours, he will qualify for the Sub 3 Squared Club. Follow Wright tomorrow on the live tracker here.
