The Long Strides Of Beach Entry

The Long Strides Of Beach Entry

During onshore starts to many ocean and sea swims, we often observe the fastest athletes taking long, long strides down the beach rather than short, choppy strides. If the top athletes naturally run with long strides in a competitive environment, we wonder if there is some innate advantage to this type of gait? Could it be the best way to run in sand with a need to maneuver around holes or shells and small waves?
