At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Cassandra Patten of Great Britain raced in the finals of both the 800m freestyle in the pool and the 10 km marathon swim in the Shunyi Olympic Rowing-Canoeing Park, winning a bronze medal.
At the 2012 London Olympic Games, Ous Mellouli of Tunisia raced in the finals of both the 1500m freestyle in the pool and the 10 km marathon swim in the Serpentine, winning a bronze medal and a gold medal respectively.
In the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, the women’s 800m freestyle will be held on August 12th while the men’s 1500m freestyle will be held on August 13th. The finals of the pool events will start at 10 pm local time.
While the pool events will start late at night at the request of NBC, the 10 km marathon swim in Copacabana Beach will start in the morning at 8 am on August 15th (women) and August 16th (men).

Served on the FINA Technical Open Water Swimming Committee and as Technical Delegate with the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games, and 9-time USA Swimming coaching staff.
