The Potential Of The Lagos State Water Regatta

The Lagos State Water Regatta is a water-based cultural sporting and recreational activities in Lagos, Nigeria. The annual event in April includes a 250m open water swimming competition across the Five Cowrie Creek lagoon in Lagos, Nigeria.

The event also includes JetSkiing races, decorated floats and regatta boats from different communities, canoe races, kayak races, and sailing competitions.

Our water is underused, both in terms of tourism and other commercial functions,” says Muyiwa Ayo-Vaughn, Head of Operations and Logistics of the Lagos State Water Regatta Committee. “People need to know that the water has much more to offer than simply providing a way for big ships to deliver their goods. We are introducing something that is largely unknown to the people. We are trying to educate them on the potential of the water that surrounds them.” Copyright © 2013 by Open Water Swimming
