After thousands of press releases of postponements and cancellations open water events around the world with a few virtual races taking their place, there is now a welcomed change of the tide.

The Santorini Experience on Santorini Island in Greece, one of the World’s Top 100 Island Swims, will be held for the 6th consecutive year on October 2nd – 4th 2020. Santorini Experience will adopt an eco-friendly approach that involves plastic-free and environmentally friendly initiatives.

After a 15 km run within a stunning view of the Caldera on Day 1, a 2.4 km swim from the volcano to the old port of Fira will be held on Day 2 on October 4th in an estimated 20-22°C.

Everyone on the island seems to get involved in the event. Santorini Mayor Antonios Sigalas said, “Santorini has adopted the strategy of sustainable development with emphasis on the protection of the natural and man-made environment…the Tourism Award [recently received] reinforces the island’s position among the world’s top destinations.”
