The Towel and the Triple Crown Dinner
Ned Denison announced, “The 9-day Cork Distance Week 2022 returns as a true international event – with most COVID restrictions lifted. 17 swimmers, new to the event, will be assisted by 59 veterans to navigate the cold and rocky swims.
One of the unique bits of gear is a towel with the names of 150+ swimmers who soloed the English Channel and completed a lap of Sandycove Island. Brendan O’Brien and Adrian Healy, who recently completed the English Channel, will appear on the towel for the first time.
Vera Rivard’s (pictured below) dream will also come true. After a lap of Sandycove Island several English Channel swimmers, including Vasanti Niemz from Germany, will earn a place on future versions of The Towel.

Then about 120 attendees, volunteers, other local Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming achievers (and sometimes a Triple Crowner flying in for just the weekend as a guest) will attend the Triple Crown Dinner on July 8th. Veteran Marty McMahon from Connecticut, will be welcomed to the club by more than 15 of his peers with the blue shirt, crown and other gifts.
