The Tradition Continues At Plivački Maraton Jarak-Šabac

15 swimmers, including Milorad Rajšić, completed the 44th annual Plivački maraton Jarak-Šabac. The race is a professional 19 km marathon swimming event known internationally as the Jarak-Šabac Marathon Swim. The event, organized by Vojislav Mijić (shown on left), is held in the Sava River in Šabac, Serbia from Jarak (Јарак), a town of 2,200 people, to Šabac.

Milorad Rajšić (shown on left) finished over the time limit this year, but he could be forgiven. The Serbian was one of the early pioneers of the event when it was in its early formative stages.

He and other students challenged themselves down the waters of the Sava River seemingly endlessly. Rajšić won the event 9 times: in 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1979, and 1980. It is remarkable that he continues to compete in the race 44 years after it started.
