At the Hagg Lake Open Water Swim in Gaston, Oregon on June 15th, race director Mike Healey offers a great bargain to the 500 open water swimmers who participate.

With 0.5-mile, 1.2-mile and 2.4-mile races, a single registration price allows you to swim in any or all of the events, and, if you signup at www.HaggLakeSwim.com before May 15th, you are guaranteed a cool race t-shirt.”

Healey, who has handled the organization for a decade, has completed 17 Ironman Triathlons around the world and is excited to be part of the 2014 Get Stoked Tour. He definitely has the all-inclusive multi-sport perspective in mind. “New this year is a single lap 2.4-mile Ironman course. In all previous years, swimmers swam 2 laps around a 1.2-mile course. This year will be our inaugural year for Stand Up Paddle Board racing. After the swim, we will have a 4- and 8-mile SUP race.”

Healey and his wife Sandy who both coach group and individual swimming workout knows what it takes to put on a successful event year after year, especially as expectations are raised in the open water world. “I’m excited about this year’s races. Kind Nutritional Bars and Gorge Performance are new sponsors joining Jamba Juice, Athletes Lounge, Adapt Athletic Training, and the Portland Triathlon Club. We have some great raffle prizes including a wetsuit, a US$350 training package with Adapt Training, a $100 Gift Certificate from Athletes Lounge, and some Nutritional Baskets from Kind.”

As for post-race, Healey is planning on live entertainment. “We always have a great barbecue with meat and veggie options for all swimmers followed by age group awards after the last race. Hagg Lake is not only a great venue for open water swimming, it’s a great place to bring your whole family for the day to enjoy swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking, disc golf, a 10-mile bike loop around the lake and loads of running trails.”

All morning, all day, all fun.
